All that glitters is not coltsfoot

The last days have been warm, a few degrees above freezing and the snow is melting. On my way home from work yesterday, I found three coltsfoot in a sunny slope. Couldn't resist taking a photo of them - first spring flowers I've seen this year.
Funny thing, when I got home I could read in one of the local newspapers "Here is the proof - spring is here" and there was a picture of some yellow flowers. A reader had sent in the picture along with the words "Found spring in Holmsund" (Holmsund is a place near Umeå). Someone at the newspaper posted the image and added some text saying it's coltsfoot when it's really dandelions. That's first grade knowledge and every kid can tell these flowers apart. The newspaper text has been slightly changed after many readers gave helpful comments saying what flower it really is..

Week 40: The little things..

Some stairwells are dark and boring, but I've seen one which is different: someone has placed some flowers by one of the windows between the first and second floor. Makes the dark stairwell (where it's really hard to take photos) feel much more alive. I like it alot and that's the reason I picked this image and didn't remove it right away.

Getting slightly out of sync with my schedule, been lots of things going on - both the last week and this one.
These roses where given away as part of a birthday present and they look as good now as 5 days ago!

Week 19: I want a banana plant!

We replanted the tomatoes and lots of other things this weekend. Bit dangerous to head to a gardening store and pick up supplies since there are so many pretty (such as the flower to the left) and interesting things. Found a small banana plant and that would be awesome, but not enough space in the apartment so perhaps another time.

Bumblebee

Flowers weren't the only signs of spring that we found a few days ago. We spotted a really big bumblebee that caused the flowers to bend when it was checking them for nectar.
I really like these small creatures, specially when they visit our balcony and pollinate the runner beans we grow there.
Next time I'll shoot flowers and bees, I'll use another camera where it's possible to set the shutter speed :)

Week 15: Crocus

I have been continuing my search for spring and found lots of different flowers, crocus, hepatica and even dandelion - but still no coltsfoot. Feels a bit strange, I've never seen dandelion earlier in the season than coltsfoot before.
Besides from that, it has been an awesome and busy weekend, seen a students' farce and earlier today the most recent show made by the humor group Klungan.

Waiting for spring flowers

Spring is here but it's moving slowly. I haven't found any coltsfoot yet and I look at the usual good spots on my way to and from work. At least, workers are busy removing all the gravel from the bicycle paths which is really awesome and soon it's time to bring out the road bike.
The image? Since I don't find any flowers outside, I'll post some here instead. Saw them at a plant store and as usual, I don't know what kind of flower it is.

Week 13: Balcony plans

Last night I fell asleep listening to the sound of water dripping from the roof. Real nice knowing that there'll be less snow tomorrow...
We've made some plans for what to grow on the balcony and since the white wild strawberries survived the winter, there's something to really look forward to when the autumn comes!
We took a trip around town to pick up some gardening supplies and in one of the stores I saw this aloe plant I really liked.
