It's amazing what happens when all the birches get leaves during the late spring. Nothing, then nothing and then after just a few days it's completely green outside.
The reason why Umeå is called the city of birches has to do with that many birches were planted after the big fire in 1888 as a way to prevent fires from spreading.

We replanted the tomatoes and lots of other things this weekend. Bit dangerous to head to a gardening store and pick up supplies since there are so many pretty (such as the flower to the left) and interesting things. Found a small banana plant and that would be awesome, but not enough space in the apartment so perhaps another time.

New weekend, new theme over at fototriss. This time it's "many". The reason was that there has been several photo triplets with many different themes - so illustrate "many" with 3 images.
Got a couple of different ideas, but I felt something was missing. Many, many... then it struck me, I've taken many images very recently (about 2000 over a timespan of 3 days) and each individual image is not very interesting, but seen together they create something more. Perhaps the photo triplets are just like that, one triplet can be very interesting and beautiful, but seeing several different triplets expressing the same theme in different ways creates something more.
These three images were taken at 16.00, 22.00 an 04.00. They are part of a time-lapse experiment I made and turned into a short movie.
Feel free to leave comments and feedback (Även på svenska).

The plants outgrow their pots quite fast and we've tried to be clever and reuse empty things that can withstand water - mostly milk cartons and tin cans.
I didn't do this, it wasn't planed but I really liked the irony when I saw which can this tomato plant ended up in :)

I noticed that the photo triplet has returned after a few weeks pause. This time, the theme is dreams and after some breakfast coffee and some contemplation an idea was formed.
Fruits and vegetables from the local store is okay, but homegrown things tastes better and we have some different plants we're taking good care of and dreams about what they'll give us later on this summer.
Yes, I know there won't be any lemons this year or the next but I can wait. Our passion fruit plants are about a year old and we're waiting and dreaming about fruit from them as well!

There is one big problem for me with photographing fruit, I usually end up eating the fruit instead. This is one rare exception.
Pomegranate is one fruit I find very beautiful, specially when opened up. Have it one my list of things to photograph sometime, but they are also very tasty and that is what has stopped me a few times so far :)

Walpurgis Night is commonly celebrated in northern Europe and in Sweden we usually light bonfires. In Umeå, the main fire was located at the university campus. Lots of people were present, but the thing that caught my eye the most was the shape of the smoke that seemed to live a life of its own. First something that resembled a mushroom and then this..
