Saturdays, I usually like them a lot, but today it felt more like only two more days 'til I get back to work and can relax. It's nice to wake up without the alarm clock buzzing, but then live tetris: packing stuff into boxes, and then arranging the boxes so the flat still feels like a home. Several hours later, it feels quite good, if we manage to accomplish the same thing tomorrow we'll be ready for next weekend when we'll get help to move all the stuff to the new bigger apartment,
After a long day, it's nice to turn off the lamps and light some candles instead, sit down together and have some evening fika. The whisky cake we made a week ago was considered ready and tasted just as good as last year! It's a tradition we have to make this cake and have it ready around the first of Advent.
Was thinking of having more "before and after" feeling in the last two images but couldn't risk loosing my share of the fika.. :)
More photo triplets can be seen here.

Tomorrow is the last day of the Umeå light festival for this year. I wish it would be around longer, but the two installations from this year will be made permanent and that's a good thing. I think all these red hearts has the same origin, a light festival many years ago, but they've been around so long that I'm not sure. Whichever, I like them.

New weekend, new photo triplet with the theme "framed", which allows for many different interpretations.
We're moving soon and things are a bit messy, packing boxes, throwing stuff away and arranging things, so the idea is that everything is art if you put a frame around it.
In times like these, it's extra nice when things - such as the light festival downtown - happen so one gets a reason to head out and relax for a while and forget about all the boxes that's waiting back home.
Feel free to leave comments and feedback (även på svenska).

One of the great things with winter is that it's the time of year one drinks glögg (mulled wine) and some friends visited the other evening and brought with them a bottle of chili-chocolate flavored glögg. Sounded a bit strange first, but tasted great!

Every autumn/winter there is a light festival in Umeå, "Umeå Höstljus". This year it's called "Mina drömmars stad" / "City of my dreams" and contains 21 temporary installations and 2 permanent ones. More info and map can be found at Umeå Höstljus (pdf file, bottom right corner).
The first image is from item 23, where they have lit up some glass windows in the city church. Then item 21, "the sound wave" hanging under a bridge. After that a bonus picture not part of the festival, but I thought I'd point the camera that way anyway :)
The last two images are from the Twin city park where thousands of small lamps where lit.
My hands got a bit cold towards the end and time was running out and the parking meter so we didn't check out all the installations, but I'll definitely head back with the camera and check out the rest soon!

Two weeks ago, the theme at fototriss was masculinity - this time it's the opposite: femininity. When I grew up my mom and grandma used to knit socks and stuff for me. I'm lucky man, my wife also knits and sometimes I do get a pair of new socks so for me, a knitting basket with yarn and related tools is something I associate with femininity.
I do know that some men also knit but that won't change my mind, and overall, I'm very grateful for what the textile industry have done, without them we might not have had computers.
In case the middle image looks strange, I've been taught it's a quite new kind of new knitting needles where one can combine needles with the right size with a cable for round knitting.

I think it was in September that we cleaned the balcony and took down all the plants we grew this year.. tomatoes and many other things. Some things that can survive the winter up here where placed in a special pot and we placed planting fabric over it.. the plan was to then cover it all under snow after we have moved to the new place.
For some strange reason it's still very warm outside, +5C right now and no snow at all hardly anywhere in Sweden. So we've been checking on our plants that should be resting for the winter and they're still green so we still have to water them when I expected them to be frozen.

Saturday and a new theme is up at fototriss, this time what it looks like where you are. Will be interesting to see the results since people are spread out geographically.
It's really grey outside today with fog and rain in the air so I don't want to go outside with the camera. Both the body and my favorite lens are supposed to have some weather sealing but I don't want to find the limit..
Instead, I'm using images I've taken the last weekends when I've hurried outside as soon as the sun has been out! What differs compared to today is of course the color of the sky and also that some more leaves have fallen. The larch trees look about the same - I pass by some almost every day.
